Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

• Account data: email address, username, and display name you provide at registration.
• Identity verification: documents submitted for KYC (Know Your Customer) compliance.
• Payment data: processed by our payment processor. WagerMe never stores your card or bank account details.
• Location data: approximate coordinates used for geofence verification at wager time. We do not track your location continuously.
• Usage data: pages visited, features used, and performance metrics to improve the Platform.
• Entry-fee acknowledgments: for each competition entry payment, we store the policy version you accepted, a cryptographic hash of the exact text shown, and the time of acceptance (so we can prove which terms applied to that payment).
• Refund eligibility records: timestamps for the 24-hour refund window and whether a refund was requested, as described in our Terms of Service.
• Account status and investigations: records when withdrawal is held, an account is frozen for a chargeback, or a tiered enforcement event is opened, with the reason code we are allowed to log.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To operate your account and process transactions.
• To verify eligibility and enforce regional restrictions.
• To detect fraud, cheating, and prohibited conduct.
• To communicate about your account, wagers, and disputes.
• To improve the Platform and develop new features.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

• Payment processor: for payment processing, card transactions, and payouts.
• Game APIs: your in-game username is sent to game providers (e.g., Lichess, Chess.com) to verify match results.
• Legal authorities: when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
• Payment and fraud networks: when an entry-fee chargeback or payment dispute is confirmed in a way that our processor or the network allows, we may report related facts to Ethoca, Verifi, and similar services, and to law enforcement, on the same basis as in our Terms of Service.

4. Data Retention

• Account and profile data: while your account is active, and for a reasonable period after you delete it, to finish disputes, chargebacks, and law enforcement needs.
• Transaction and entry-fee records: at least 7 years from the event, for payment, tax, and dispute rules that apply to our processes.
• Entry-fee acknowledgment and hash records: at least 7 years (tied to payment and dispute time limits).
• Refund window timestamps and refund request logs: at least 7 years, linked to the payment they belong to.
• Chargeback, hold, and forfeiture event records: for the life of the account, then 7 years after closure, unless the law or a real investigation needs longer, in which case we keep the minimum that fits that rule.
• 30-day inactivity and platform-credit conversion: the dates we used for that run are kept for at least 2 years after a conversion, so you can ask what happened to your account.

You may request account deletion via your account settings. Some records in the list above will stay on a legal-hold or minimum retention path even after a delete request, where the law says we must.

5. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), and signed authentication tokens (JWT). However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Browser Extension

The WagerMe browser extension ("WagerMe Game Verifier") is an optional companion that integrates with supported game sites. By installing the extension you consent to the following data collection:

• Authentication credentials: your login session is stored locally in browser storage so the extension can communicate with the WagerMe API on your behalf. Credentials are never shared with third parties.
• Game activity: the extension reads publicly visible information on Lichess and Chess.com pages, including player usernames, game URLs, and match outcomes, to detect and verify game results.
• Tab screenshots: a screenshot of the active game tab may be captured as proof of a match result. Screenshots are uploaded to WagerMe servers and retained as part of wager records.
• Location: approximate coordinates are obtained via the game site's page context when you create or accept a challenge, solely for geofence verification. Location is requested only at the moment of the wager action and is never tracked in the background.
• Notifications: the extension periodically checks for incoming challenges so it can display desktop notifications. No personal data is sent externally for this purpose.

The extension does not inject ads, track browsing history outside of supported game sites, or sell any collected data. You can revoke access at any time by uninstalling the extension.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your session and authentication state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

8. Your Rights

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Object to processing where we rely on legitimate interests.

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify registered users of material changes via email or in-app notification.
